Food for Summer Numbers are In

Drum Roll Please! Summer numbers are in!

The “official” numbers for Summer 2017 are in and the Food For the Summer Partnership is thrilled to announce that 45,978 meals were provided to local children this year, with 20,246 delivered by Food For the Summer volunteers.

In addition to providing weekday meals, Food For the Summer strives to build community and provide enrichment at our meal sites. Successes for this year included:

  • Free Book Wednesdays
  • Youth Ambassador leadership program
  • Free Swimming Lessons at the Hargraves pool
  • Site visits with local police and fire personnel
  • Community Eclipse Party
  • And more

“Of course, we are extremely grateful to the more than 600 individuals who volunteered this summer,” said Emma Jenkins-Sullivan, the program’s director. “We couldn’t have done this without tremendous community support.”

Planning is already underway for Summer 2018.
