On Wednesday night, April 26th,
the Chapel Hill Town Council will discuss UNC Heath’s request for a permit to develop their property at Eastowne.  This topic is the last on the Council agenda. The meeting materials are here.

UNC Health is developing a new campus on the former Eastowne property.  Much of UNC’s internal medicine services now are offered at their new building on this property and the new permit request will enlarge that campus.  On the northern portion of the site there grows a rare old growth Hickory-Oak forest that back ups to I-40 and is so special that the North Carolina Heritage Program has designate this forest worthy of preservation. Read more about the special character of this forest here and sign the petition here.

Part of the UNC Heath’s plan is build a parking deck on the Hickory Oak Forest!!!
To improve the chance that this old growth forest can continue to grow into future generations, email the Town Council  mayorandcouncil@townofchapelhill.org and ask Council members to reject the plan to put a parking deck on this land, or to do so anytime in the future.
